The U.K. recently announced that it will host a major International Investment Summit on October 14, advancing opportunities for investment and growth across the country.

Economic growth and investment are the new government’s top priority. “The summit will make clear that the U.K. is ‘open for business’ as the government resets relations with trading partners around the globe and creates a pro-business environment that supports innovation and high-quality jobs at home,” said the government in a recent statement.

U.K. tech landscape

The U.K. is Europe’s leading tech ecosystem, with the highest number of ‘unicorn’ companies and venture capital investment worth £860 million from 2023 to 2024. This strong economic landscape, with clear growth potential for new technologies, makes the U.K. an attractive location for investors.

“Long-term, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth is this government’s central mission. That’s why we’re taking immediate steps to increase investment right across the U.K., support local skilled jobs, and raise living standards in all our communities,” stated business and trade secretary Jonathan Reynolds.

Reynolds added that the U.K. International Investment Summit is an opportunity to meaningfully engage with the world’s leading businesses and investors. Moreover, it allows the new government to continue building long-term relationships that will drive investment into the U.K.

Key participants

In a separate statement, the U.K. government said that Prime Minister Keir Starmer will open the inaugural International Investment Summit. Then, he will take part in a conversation event with Eric Schmidt, former CEO and chairman of Google.

“Last year, when the U.K. hosted the first global summit on AI safety, the country displayed its commitment to being a leader in responsible innovation. Now, it has the opportunity to go even further and articulate a vision for the future where the U.K. is a hub for world-class talent,” stated Schmidt.

The summit will gather U.K. leaders, high-profile investors and businesses from across the world including, Ruth Porat, president and chief investment officer of Alphabet and Google. Alex Kendall, CEO of Wayve, and Bruce Flatt, CEO of Brookfield Asset Management, will also speak at the summit.

The event will provide an opportunity for the government to establish partnerships with businesses to boost investment in the U.K. Moreover, it will give investors the certainty and confidence they need to drive growth.

Summit to support government’s growth mission

The U.K. International Investment Summit marks a key milestone in the government’s growth mission. It will also support the country’s modern Industrial Strategy. In addition, it builds on the U.K.’s ambition to maintain the highest growth in the G7.

Coming two weeks ahead of the budget, the summit will also build on the UK’s strong reputation as a global trading centre, and ensure investment is at the heart of the UK’s economic vision.
