Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis enacted legislation to rebrand the Palm Beach International Airport in honor of Donald Trump, the most recent in a succession of buildings, institutions, government programs, warships and money to bear the name of the U.S. president.
The resolution to rename the airport after Trump follows the approval of Florida last year of a plan to bequeath a downtown Miami property for the site of the presidential library of Trump.
Trump, a New York native, relocated to Florida in 2019. Prior to the relocation, he resided in a penthouse at “Trump Tower” but has since established his primary residence at his “Mar-a-Lago” resort in West Palm Beach, as reported by Reuters.Â
Prior to the implementation of the name change, a formal request must be forwarded to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is then required to process the amendment in various flight charting and navigation databases, and the airport signage must be updated.
Expansion of Trump’s legacy
Last week, Representative Brian Mast presented legislation to modify the three-letter code of the airport from PBI to DJT, representing the initials of Trump.
The Department of the Treasury of the United States stated last week that American paper currency will bear the signature of Trump beginning this summer, marking the first time a sitting president has signed the money of America.
The name of Trump has also been assigned to a planned class of Navy warships, a visa program for wealthy foreigners, a government-run prescription drug website, and federal savings accounts for children.
In December, the board of the “John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts”, which Trump populated with allies during a board takeover, appended the name of Trump to the institution.
The name of Trump was also incorporated in December into the United States Institute of Peace building in Washington, months after his administration assumed control of the nonprofit organization and nearly closed it.
Earlier this month, a federal arts panel consisting of members appointed by Trump authorized a commemorative gold coin featuring his image, part of a collection of coins the “U.S. Mint” is planning to manufacture to celebrate the 250th birthday of America this year.
In February, the White House verified Trump proposed dropping his hold on funding for a New York Hudson River tunnel project in exchange for Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer supporting the renaming of Washington Dulles Airport and New York Penn Station in honor of Trump.
