In 2023, the Ministry invested $67 million in over 500 tourism infrastructure projects, including waterfronts, roads, and event centers. 

International visitors spent around $3.7 billion in Brazil during the first half of 2024, according to a report by AgĂȘncia Brasil. This figure surpassed the previous record of $3.5 billion set in 2014 when the country hosted the World Cup.

Increase over 2023 spending

Data released by the Brazilian Central Bank indicates that this amount is 15.6 percent higher than the first half of 2023, when foreign visitors spent $3.2 billion.

Brazil positioned as attractive global destination

In a statement, the Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, declared that Brazil has established itself as an attractive, competitive, and valued destination on the global stage. “We are welcoming these international visitors with an incredible diversity of tourist experiences,” he said.

Tourism infrastructure improvements

The Ministry of Tourism reported that it has improved tourism infrastructure to strengthen the sector and increase foreigners’ presence in Brazil. “In 2023, the Ministry financed over 500 projects, such as the renovation of waterfronts, the paving of roads, and the construction of event centers, which received a federal investment of $67 million,” the Ministry explained.

Increasing international visitor numbers

Moreover, AgĂȘncia Brasil highlighted that the record inflow of foreign currency coincides with an increase in international visitors arriving in Brazil. More than 3.5 million foreign tourists entered the country in the first half of 2024, which is 9.7 percent higher than the same period in 2023 and 1.9 percent above the number registered in 2019.
