China’s Ministry Of Commerce has set 2026 e-commerce priorities to strengthen innovation and industrial upgrading

China’s online retail market has held its title as the largest in the world for 13 consecutive years, with digital spending reported at more than 23.8 trillion yuan (nearly $3.39 trillion), according to official statistics.

According to China Central Television (CCTV), the figures were disclosed during a national e-commerce work conference. The conference highlighted that China’s e-commerce sector has experienced consistent improvements in higher-quality development over the last five years, serving as a fresh driver of growth and bolstering the country’s development strategy.

By expanding international cooperation, China has raised the number of countries partnering in Silk Road e-commerce to 36.

As a key engine for job creation and industrial enhancement, e-commerce has generated over 78 million jobs, with express delivery volumes averaging close to 20 percent growth annually over the last five years.

Services and software connected to cloud computing and big data have seen rapid growth as well.

During the conference, the Ministry of Commerce outlined its e-commerce policy objectives for 2026, focusing on boosting innovation-driven growth, refining the country’s development environment, and broadening international cooperation.
