OpenAI recently revealed that itsĀ chatbot ChatGPT now has more than 200 million weekly active users, double the number it had in the last fall season. Launched in 2022, ChatGPT can generate human-like responses based on user prompts and had 100 million weekly active users in November 2023.

The startup also revealed that 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies are using its products. In addition, its automated application programming interface, or API, which allows software programs to talk to each other, has doubled since the launch of ChatGPT-4o miniĀ in July.

OpenAI’s GPT-4o mini is a cost-efficient small AI model that seeks to make the technology more affordable and less energy-intensive, allowing the startup to target a broader pool of customers.

ChatGPT has driven AI’s popularity among individuals and companies and fueled a remarkable rise in the valuation of the San Francisco-based OpenAI.

According to a recent report by statistics firm DemandSage, ChatGPT took the internet by storm, acquiring 1 million users in the first five days and 100 million users in the first couple of months. As of August 2024, the chatbot has over 180.5 million users and the base is growing rapidly. However, only around 100 million of them actively use it.

ChatGPT Plus has 7.7 million users worldwide. In addition, nearly 12.22 percent of ChatGPT users are from the United States. Meanwhile, 11.12 percent of users are from India, and 4.62 percent share of the traffic comes from Brazil. The United Kindom and Indonesia direct the 4th and 5th highest share of traffic.

DemandSage also revealed OpenAI spends approximately $700,000 every day to operate ChatGPT.
